  • Profile
  • Dr. Yong-Hoon Cho received his Ph.D. degree in solid state physics from Department of Physics, Seoul National University (Korea) in 1997. He worked on growth, fabrication, and various structural, electrical, and optical characterizations of III-V semconductor thin films and quantum device structures. In April 1997, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Center for Laser and Photonics Research, Oklahoma State University, OK (USA) and worked on the development and characterizations of wide bandgap III-nitride based optoelectronic structures. From October 1998, he worked at Department of Physics (Center for Near-field Atom-photon Technology) and Research Institute of Advanced Materials at Seoul National University as a Senior Researcher and worked on the nano-scale optical characterization of quantum nanostructures using the near-field scanning optical microscopy. From 2000 to 2008, he was an assistance and associate professor at Department of Physics in Chungbuk National University (Korea). In August 2008, he joined Department of Physics, KAIST (Korea) as a tenured associate professor. Since 2005, his laboratory has been designated as a National Research Laboratory supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Korea. Since 2010, he has been in charge of KAIST Center for LED Research as well as Educational Program for LED. His current research interests are growth, fabrication, and various structural, electrical, and optical characterizations of micro- and nano-scale III-V compound semiconductor quantum structures.

  • Since 2002, he has been a regular visiting scholar in CNRS groups (France). From 2004 to 2005, he was a visiting scholar in Device Research Laboratory and California Nano System Institute, University California at Los Angeles, CA (USA) and during these visits he worked on fabrication and characterization of various semiconductor nanostrustures and devices. From 2012 to 2013, he was a visiting scholar in Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center, University California at Berkeley, CA (USA) and involved in the novel hybrid system of semiconductor and metallic nanostructures.

  • He has produced more than 240 refereed international publications (including 190 SCI(E) papers with ~5,000 citations) and more than 310 international conferences presentations in the semiconductor physics, optoelectronics, optics, and material science area.
